When the unimaginable happened, I made a desperate call to MobileTech Computing, in Corte Madera, which I originally found on NextDoor, surrounded by rave reviews. My Mac had died suddenly, forcing me to purchase a new (actually, refurbished) one but then my e-mail didn’t work. So I called the hosting company, whose services I have used for close to twenty years, simply requiring the settings, and an agent, shockingly reckless and seemingly in a hurry, decided to switch me from one type of e-mail to another without warning me first that I would lose my e-mail, which I indeed did. Deleted in a flash. I sat there for a while and stared forlornly, incredulous at what just transpired and I started to feel like a Samuel Beckett character from The Unnamable: “You must go on, I can’t go on, I’ll go on.” But when I spoke to Michael Kwei, in MobileTech’s technical support, he told me, soothing as a dove, that he could recover my data by extracting the e-mail from my HD, even if my old Mac wouldn’t boot up, which was music to my ears—the arcane poetry of computing making sense! He asked me to buy a large-sized thumb drive for the transferred e-mails and that it would take around two hours.The following day after dropping off my old Mac and the thumb drive, Michael called to tell me that the job took more than six hours for the file transfer only for it to crash, so he used his own external HD to store the data. He not only allowed me to borrow his own USB HDD, instead of my having to purchase one, to transfer the data to my new machine at home, but he didn’t charge a single dime over the two hours he quoted me. He then very patiently went over all the instructions for importing and was a model of clarity and consideration. It was extremely gratifying doing business with someone who went above and beyond the job, as well as exhibiting a breath of knowledge about the intricacies of computers.Everything I experienced about Michael Kwei tells me that you couldn’t possibly find a more gifted or professional or capable computer specialist.
