Another National Park treasure. This park shares a border with Canada and is the gift of big fresh water and is best explored by water craft. We visited 3 of the 4 visitor centers. Rainy Lake center was the largest and perhaps the newest. From here we took the Grand tour boat excursion, about 2 hours. Lots of water, birds and wilderness. The Lake Kabetogama visitor center was smaller but also very nice. From here we took the boat tour to Kettle Falls Historic District. About a 5 hour round trip journey. We enjoyed hearing about the history of the Kettle Falls and the Kettle Falls Hotel. We saw many eagles, deer, ducks, and wilderness along the way. Short walks in the kettle falls area were easy and fun. The 3rd Center we visited was the Ash River visitor center and part of an historic setting and former lodge. If you enjoy water craft of all types this is the park to visit. If you are hikers the trails are nice but limited. We enjoyed our 3 nights and 4 days here. Well worth a visit.

A great National Park to get away from it all. Remote, cold, and quiet, this is a nice place to enjoy nature without the crowds you might find along the lakes or out west. This is just the right place for a forest hike or some lovely boating on still, protected waters.
