My fiance and I got engaged in Kauai a few weeks ago, and fortunately stumbled across Bali Hai's Photo & Video brochure soon thereafter. We decided to give them a call to inquire about pricing and availability for a photo shoot within the next few days. Jon Gibb gave us all the information we needed and was able to squeeze us in within just a few days. In just a 25 minute shoot, we got SO MANY AMAZING photos recreating our engagement/proposal right on the beach where it happened. It was such a simple and easy process, and Jon is incredibly talented at capturing genuine and authentic moments, making us feel comfortable all the while. I am so incredibly happy with how everything turned out and would ABSOLUTELY recommend families, couples, and really anyone else to get their photos taken with Bali Hai Photo (especially with Jon) next time you are in Kauai!

My cousin In-law April paid Jon to film their wedding in Kauai in September 2018 and were promised the edited video and raw footage within 6 weeks. After months of trying to get a response, they are forced to assume this is a SCAM business. My wife and I attended the wedding, and it makes me furious to think they won't get to see the film of their beautiful ceremony. Jon, if you have the footage, please send it. If you do, I would be happy to delete this post.

My son Steven and daughter April hired Bali Hai Photo and Video last September to film their wedding in Kauai. It is very disappointing that after repeated attempts to get a response on the status of the video, it has still not been provided. They paid the full fee up front in good faith, and unfortunately, it appears that we will never see the video. This is extremely upsetting for the entire family and I do not recommend the business.

My wife and I had the same experience that many others have reported. We paid Jon to film our wedding in Kauai last September and were promised the video within 6 weeks. He seemed so professional and nice that we even paid him extra above his asking price. The full payment was made in advance of receiving the video, as requested by Jon. For those of you considering Bali Hai Photo & Video, do not pay the full amount up front because then there is no motivation for Jon to complete the video! At first, Jon replied to our inquiries and kept delaying delivering our video but for the last couple months we have not even been able to get a reply. Now, 7 months after our wedding, I'm forced to assume this business is a SCAM and I hope no one else will lose their memories of a lifetime as a result. If we do receive our video we would be happy to update this review. Jon - please let us know what is going on!

I had a similar experience to Nicole Andrews. After my husband and I left Hawaii I had no response from Jon for months, as well as no photos. The package claims you will receive around 20 photos or so (I can not remember right now) with in 24 hrs after the wedding as a preview... no photos were delivered to me until 3/4 months after the wedding by a lady I had never spoken to before. I was forced to write bad google reviews to get anyone’s attention about the situation. I also paid for drone photos but only received one from the actual wedding and it was too blurry to even have printed out. There were no clear photos of my wedding dress or shoes or jewelry as well. I did delete my previous comment because I was being harassed by Jon to remove the comment seeing as I did end up receiving photos after all of this. I thought it was necessary to put this review because I know how often I used google reviews while planning my wedding.

Regarding the Nicole Andrews review recently posted: No one is “stealing” from you Jon. And you stating so is not only false, it borders on defamation, which if you keep asserting, I will turn this matter over to my legal team. Aside from your total ineptness and complete lack of responsiveness to multiple inquires over several weeks, you clearly practice false advertising. All over your website you promote “drone photography included” - which you have not and apparently will not provide us after we paid you upfront. You can deal with AMEX under which we have properly filed our dispute, and you are free to state your position.

Updated – We got some of our pictures but read the whole story…. We paid $541.45 online to have a photographer come and take pictures of my family in Princeville on July 17, 2018. The package included 30 photos, photographer editing and drone photos. I had some concerns from the beginning as they did not respond to multiple phone calls and texts asking to confirm our appointment. Finally, the day before the shoot when I informed them that we would need to cancel, I received a return text that they would be there. John, the owner, did indeed meet us at the scheduled time and place. It is now 6 weeks later, and John has not provided any photos. I have sent multiple emails, and texts and called repeatedly. After a couple of weeks he texted me and let me know we should receive the photos by the next day. That was over a week ago and now he is not responding at all. This is so disappointing as I really wanted these pictures of my family to memoralize our wonderful trip to Hawaii. I can never get this trip back and there are no photos to show it. I am extremely sad. The money alone to pay for the photos and the cost of the day itself are also lost....but the lack of photos is what is most disappointing. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Update On Review: After my failed attempts to get any response, I let my husband know we would likely not get our photos. He also began a series of communications to John that initially had some response, but after several weeks this did not result in any photos. We both gave up and were considering hiring an attorney in Hawaii, or simply trying to get our money back. After 11 weeks and 2 days a great thing happened! We got an email with a link to our photos and we had a text from a person named Melchor apologizing for the delay. There were over 100 of them. None had been edited, nor were the drone photos there, but we had the photos on the beach. I initially marked 43 photos for downloading. I was told we could only download 30 per our package. I asked how I could get the additional 13 pictures and was told “We can give you the 43 photos at no cost if you could remove the bad review, and if you leave us a good review, I can give you the entire gallery at no cost". Really? As my integrity is worth more than $541, I declined. I want others to know how this business is run. I asked what the additional cost would be for the 13 photos. It was $100 and I paid it. I now have my 43 photos, without any editing done by the photographer and without any of the drone photos which are clearly promised on all packages on the website (this advertising may change after the posting of this review). We are currently in a dispute through our credit card company with Bali Hai for some of the cost of the package as no drone photos were provided. After I posted this review, I scanned the internet for other reviews and found many stories similar to ours. Several for family photos and weddings where the bride and/or groom were desperate for their photos. Just beware. I wish I had done my research before booking this company. We are now getting barraged with phone calls and texts from Bali Hai letting us know we are dishonest people as we are disputing some of the cost of the package due to incomplete pictures. Literally John has spent hours communicating to us. I really wish he would have spent this time up front simply getting us our pictures or responding back to us. Karma?

I highly recommend adding a drone videographer to capture the spectacular aerial Hawaiian views. And there's no better pair to work with than Jon and Jonathan (Jon Gibb was our videographer, Jonathan Moeller was our photographer). Jonathan is a superbly talented photographer - we are incredibly happy and impressed with our photos. As a videographer, Jon was able to capture spectacular aerial video of our wedding party and the amazing beach we were at. Jon's drone shots allowed us to see what we couldn't - breathtaking and dynamic video of us and our guests against Na Aina Kai's beach as a backdrop, from a bird's eye view. We are so thankful and appreciative to Jon and Jonathan for so beautifully capturing our special day.
